Ystad Summit

Ystad Summit 2024

Sweden's new meeting place for societal debate is getting even bigger. From September 4 to 6, 2024, Ystad Summit will be held for the third year – now in a new location, spanning more days, and with Altitude Meetings as a new co-owner. What is Ystad Summit? Ystad Summit is a politically independent and open democratic meeting place. Over two days, we come together for dialogue, exchange, and unexpected encounters. Individuals and stakeholders from the nonprofit sector, politics, society, and business gather here to discuss matters that concern and impact our region – both now and in the future.

Human Rights Festival

The Human Rights Festival was initiated by Altitude Meetings and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute to disseminate knowledge about human rights and democracy through various cultural expressions, including discussions, lectures, music, poetry, and more. The festival is an expansion of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute's film festival.

Circular construction in the Nordic

Construction and real estate represent as much as 40% of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally. Virgin materials like concrete, steel and glass are three of the reasons that construction of new buildings make up for 10% of the total emissions.

Preventive kidney care in Sweden

Region Skåne and real estate developer Atrium Ljungberg met at The Bridge Summit in 2019 and, through the workshops joined forces to address early detection of kidney-related lifestyle diseases. After pandemic delays the pilot finally took place in 2022 where 100+ middle-aged men with “fear-of-finding-out” checked their blood pressure during an everyday visit to the mall. For each person that could be encouraged to change their habits and thereby escape advanced kidney care (and suffering), Region Skåne estimates a saving of EUR 50k per year per person. 25% of the tested persons were diagnosed with an increased risk.

Waste and water management in Zambia

Zambia has been one of sub-Saharan Africa’s growing economies during the first years of the 21st century, thus facing both old and new sustainability challenges. Waste management and water security are two challenges that concern the capital Lusaka and its peri-urban areas. In 2019 The Bridge hosted two full day workshops in collaboration with Challenges Zambia inviting national and municipal governments, water authorities, local and Swedish tech companies and development agencies. The collaborative Bridge method proposed 7 different approaches to address the challenges.

Altitude Academy

How do we help create a better society? We believe there are a few ground pillars. By creating new forums for exchanging thoughts on democracy and getting the right people together we enhance the odds of solving great challenges. We can try and affect people in power – and we can help the younger generation get strong and confident enough to become the leaders of tomorrow. One way of doing this is by giving them the right tools which we do in Altitude Academy. The leadership training is free of charge and there are monthly sessions for one year.

Since 2018 we have been working on behalf of Malmö city to create long-term relationships between elementary schools and the industry. This joined effort is called “Framtidskompis – youths and employers together = win-win ” and aims for students to get in contact with companies and organizations. By doing this the students will be given opportunities to learn more about business, different kinds of professions and get new role models. 11 elementary schools in Malmö create long-term relationships with 2-3 companies per school and interact for a few years through workshops, company visits, and seminars.
